Indian Head Massage – what’s it like?
I’ve read in some places that it feels like heaven on earth and then other people have said it hurts like anything but feels good afterwards, what’s it really like? I wouldn’t mind going for one to try it!
Also what is that thing they do sometimes where they put their hands together and kind of hit the person around the head… it just looks and sounds really painful! Why do they do that?
Thanks!
An Indian Head Massage (IHM) should not hurt. Plus the experience is meant to be one of feedback such that the IHM masseur will ask you throughout if it is comfortable or not and probe for feedback so as to know whether to apply more or less pressure in the massage. It is meant to be a pleasurable and relaxing experience.
That technique is known as “Hacking” and its only applied on the shoulders and not the head and it is not painful
The techniques on the shoulders are mainly meant to unknot knotted muscles. Only very gentle techniques are applied to the head.
There are certain contraindications. The IHM masseur would discuss those with you.
Hope that helps.
Enjoy your IHM if you decide to have one.
Best wishes.
