This is essentially the opposite of treatment for chronic neck pain, which is typically physical therapy and heat therapy.

Physical therapy is a blanket term that refers to many different types of treatment. This can include massage, stretching, exercise, and electrical stimulation among other techniques. The therapy will also address risk factors and preventative care.

Don’t assume that alternative therapies are not useful. In fact, a recent European study compared three groups. The group that had Chinese acupuncture ended up with better short- and long-term pain relief than did those who had massage treatment or laser treatment.

Regardless of your choice of treatment, you need to find a certified professional to provide it. This is important whether you want acupuncture, physical therapy, or massage. If you get someone who doesn’t know what they are doing and performs the treatment wrong, you can be further injured. You may also want to consider combining therapies for better results.

I’ve had one massage. I fell asleep 10 minutes into it and apparently was sawing wood. I don’t know if she fininshed – I am overweight with one too many spare tires & fat on my body. My feet are also dry and crusty (its true). Worker seemed disgusted. Would you be & would you finish the massage? And I’ve been wondering, with me sleeping, how did she turn me over to say massage my back? I’ve been told I drool when I sleep.

Any massage I’ve had has started with my back. Don’t know anyone that starts with the person laying face up.

Whether you are overweight or not, you are entitled to the same massage anyone else is. If the worker was disgusted with your feet then she should have suggested you go for a pedicure or given you some ideas on how to properly care for them so they won’t get that way.

Alot of people fall asleep, although with the deep tissue massages I get …. I don’t think anyone could. There is pain but it’s worth it in the end as my muscles feel wonderful.

Go to a different massage therapist next time & see what the difference is…. remember she/he should have an “RMT” (Registered Massage Therapist) after their name.
