Can a muscle or nerve in the neck cause headache?

I had a horrible one sided headache last week. I still have the pain there. I had all the symptoms of a migraine except that along with it I had neck pain. Now it has settled right where the base of the skull meets the neck. It hurts when I move side to side and sends a shooting pain up my head.

My massage therapist did say that my clavical muscle on that side was very tight. Could a nerve or muscle cause pain in this spot or a headache?
