It’s true that when reviewing the most romantic place on earth, it is better visited with your husband or significant other, than with your children. However, timing is everything, and the opinion I render is shared by the sophisticated judgment of Matthew and Alex, (ages 12 and 10) who at this point in their careers as Junior Hotel Reviewers, said it all when they labelled Santorini, and our beautiful hotel, Ikies (+30 22860 71311), as the most romantic place on earth. I have high hopes for their future as husbands and challenge the women they marry to match their ability to define the perfect ambiance. Truth be told, you can judge the ultimate in guest service by how hotel staff treats children, and these children were treated like the future honeymooners they are. Today’s child is tomorrows guest, after all.
What makes the perfect hotel: location, beauty, attention to detail, comfort, and personalized customer service. Judge for yourself—a cliff-top location overlooking the Caldera and white pristine city of Oia, sunset views, huge terraces with foutons, lounge chairs, umbrellas and private hot-tub, robes, slippers, in-room lap top with cordless high speed internet (in case your crazy enough to keep in touch with the outside world), kitchenette (though you won’t need it), fluffy comforters, star-lit nights. Am I saying too much? Sorry, I’m not finished. What about personalized service that makes you feel as if you have personal butler service that you haven’t paid for? I’ve been wordy, but it could hardly be helped.
I’m hardly finished. Finding the perfect hotel isn’t enough when you’re on a romantic vacation. An over- the-top romantic dinner is also a virtual necessity. I suggest Katikies. You will be perched on a promontory overlooking the sea and the cliffs of Oia. The lights will dim automatically in direct proportion with the setting sun. Your white tablecloth will glow pink as the sun sets. Three waiters will serve you simultaneously as you dine. You will not have room for dessert, but you will order it anyway—preferably the chocolate pyramid stuffed with chocolate mousse.
If you are planning on booking a flight the second you finish reading this, here is some additional quick information for your edification: Best Sunset view: Kastro Restaurant (Tel: 22860 71045 Best Massage: Prem Amura, (Tel: 694 6140 532) Best Car Rental: Auto Europe: (Tel: 22860 71200). Now, find an affordable flight, call the hotel, tell them to book you dinner at Katikies and Kastro, ask them to request a Citroen convertible or some other fun car with Auto Europe, and have a glass of champagne at sunset. Do not forget to toast Alex, Matthew, and I for recommending to you the most romantic experience ever.
Knee pain is the most common musculoskeletal complaint that brings people to their doctor. With today’s increasingly active society, the number of knee problems is increasing. Knee pain has a wide variety of specific causes and treatments.
Anatomy of the knee
The knee is a vulnerable joint that bears a great deal of stress from everyday activities such as lifting and kneeling, and from high-impact activities such as jogging and aerobics.
The knee is formed by the following parts:
Tibia – shin bone or larger bone of the lower leg.
Femur – thighbone or upper leg bone.
Patella – kneecap.
There are two groups of muscles involved in the knee, including the quadriceps muscles (located on the front of the thighs), which straighten the legs, and the hamstring muscles (located on the back of the thighs), which bend the leg at the knee.
Causes of Knee Pain
Causes of knee pain can be very varied and numerous. Injuries, arthritis, bursitis, gout, pica, Baker’s Cysts, tendonitis, and other conditions are all causes of knee pain. The most common condition that causes knee pain is arthritis, and there are a lot of different treatments available for this condition. A ligament or cartilage tear can also cause knee pain, and the treatment for these injuries is usually surgery to repair the tear, and then rest and strengthening exercises once the tear is healed. The knees are complex joints that often are damaged as a result of injury (trauma) or “wear and tear.” In people over the age of 50, osteoarthritis is the most common cause for pain in the knees.
Common types of knee injuries include the following:
Bruises
Fractures (broken bone; e.g., fractured knee cap [patella], upper tibia, or lower femur)
In diagnosing the cause of knee pain, it is important to carefully examine the knees. A patient whose knees cave inward has a condition known as knocked-knees. This stresses and weakens the medial collateral ligament on the inside of the knee.
Alternatives to Knee Surgery
Prolotherapy is indicated regardless of whether the injury causing the knee pain is due to a meniscal or articular cartilage injury. Prolotherapy injected into a joint requires a more concentrated solution because the joint fluid has a diluting effect.
Treatment
People overall are experiencing knee pain, most commonly caused by arthritis, in people as young as their 30’s when at one time, this was associated mainly in the elderly. Weight bearing movement, which means repeated pounding on the knee with forces up to four to five times your body weight, is the most common reason for knee stress and pain.
Stay strong — this is what the manual will teach you how to do using the quadriceps muscles to ease stress on the knee joint. 2. Mix up your exercise routines i.e., practice cross training, which implements a variety of activities. 3. Stay active. 4. Avoid risky activities, especially if you have had a previous knee injury.
